Mr. Key received a Bachelor's of Music Education Degree from Western Kentucky University
and went on to study Renaissance and Medieval Music at Ohio State University.
In the mid-70s, he recorded in West Berlin for Germany's experimental Delta-Acustic
label - working with the legendary, Klaus Schulze, and the mystic, Mannfred Schunke
. Returning to this country in 1977, he co-founded the Ohio rock group, SPITTIN'
IMAGE, and recorded a number of his songs on the MCA label.
Moving to the northwest in 1985, Mr. Key turned his attention to music for the stage,
establishing himself as an actor, musical director, and sound designer in Seattle's
thriving theatre community. He has performed with a number of Seattle's most beloved
companies including Intiman, Seattle Public Theater, Taproot Theatre Company, Annex
Theatre, Left Coast Theatre, The Empty Space, Theatre Simple, One World Theatre,
14/49, and Book-It Repertory Theatre.
His popular collaborations with Eddie Levi Lee for Empty Space Theatre, include THE
SALVATION OF IGGY SCROOGE, RODEO RADIO, and MANDRAGOLA UNCHAINED. In 1998, he appeared
at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in Peter Parnell's 8-hour stage adaptation
of John Irving's THE CIDER HOUSE RULES. He appeared in his latest collaboration with
Lee, WUTHERING! HEIGHTS! THE! MUSICAL!, at Actor's Theatre of Louisville as part
of their Main Stage 2000 season. In September 2001, he helped create and appeared
in DARKNESS LIFTING, a tribute to the 25th Anniversary of Habitat For Humanity. His
most recent work was co-writing, with Myra Platt, the musical adaptation of Berkeley
Breathed's book, RED RANGER CAME CALLING, for Book-It Repertory's 2003 season.
